Mary Lundeen, Jubilee Neighborhood School (JNS) program coordinator at Outreach Community Center in Carol Stream, recently treated a group of 5th-grade girls to some graduation fun! Mary and Ashley Brown, JNS teacher, took the girls to downtown Chicago to celebrate their elementary school completion. The trip included a stop at Sprinkles Cupcakes, the American Girl store and Water Tower Place.

This girls group met once a week over the school year, along with the 4th-grade girls, in Mary’s office. “We love to have tea and this year we watched ‘Girl Rising,’ a documentary film on girls and education in other countries, some of which prohibit girls from being educated,” she says. “We talk about everything and pray and support each other.”

The downtown adventure was a significant way to cap off the school year. “It was a special outing just to celebrate this important milestone in their lives,” says Mary. “It was great to see them have fun. They loved their time together and with us. I hope  we can do similar trips in the future.”
