Thanks to Richard and Cheryl Gallian of Wheaton Bible Church for hosting a horseback riding adventure for the Big Buddy mentoring program! The Gallians, who own a horse ranch in West Chicago, taught mentor matches how to care for a horse and then let them ride a horse or pony. The event also included fun and snacks inside the Gallian’s home.
“I was excited to see how the day taught both students and mentors new skills,” says Lisa Garmon, OCC Mentoring Coordinator. “This was a very memorable day and we are so thankful to the Gallians for hosting this unique event. Through shared experiences like this, our volunteers and students are able to form important bonds.”
More mentors are needed for the Big Buddy program! Mentors meet with their mentees twice a month with optional large group social outings, call their mentees on the weeks they don’t meet, and must commit to serving for one year. For only a few hours a month, you could make a difference in the life of a youth. Join our volunteer team!
