Wheaton Bible Church and Iglesia del Pueblo recently served Outreach Community Ministries at CareFest, a one-day annual event where church volunteers reach out to the community through various service projects. The event was held on May 4. This year, 77 volunteers from the church worked at Outreach Community Ministries sites such as Outreach Community Center in Carol Stream, Wheaton Youth Outreach, Jubilee Village and Hawthorne House. The group completed a total of 13 projects including landscaping such as planting, mulching, and weeding; deep cleaning and sanitizing classrooms, gyms, and bathrooms; cleaning out basements and hauling furniture away; and painting. They served a total of 231 hours!
Mindy Inman, Outreach’s director of volunteer services, says Outreach was grateful to be a part of CareFest again this year. “Wheaton Bible’s commitment to serve their local community is vital to our organization,” she says. “Through the hard work of CareFest volunteers we are able to refresh and renew our spaces. The projects are often simple in scope but they make a profound impact on those who use the spaces every day. The service displayed by volunteers is a reminder to our clients and staff that we are part of a larger community who joins us in the work of restoring hope and providing opportunities.”
