Almost 30 adults and children came out to the OCC-Villagebrook classroom on December 7 to make ornaments for the community holiday tree in the Villagebrook office. Teen Council members helped facilitate three stations: candy cane reindeer, light bulb reindeer and tea light snowmen. Parents and grandparents helped children at each station, where they could choose from various items to personalize their ornaments.
Operating on a make-one-take-one principle, the students quickly produced enough ornaments to decorate the community tree as well as take home several for their own use. Program Coordinator Marissa Sabio enjoys the opportunity to bring families together to create useful and decorative items. “I love when we can use our resources to make available the time, space, and materials for adults and children to create together in a fun, low-key atmosphere,” she says. The items produced will be on display for everyone to enjoy at Villagebrook throughout the holiday season.
