Thank you to Heidi’s Salon in Warrenville for giving Warrenville Youth & Family Services (WYFS) girls a fun and memorable evening! The salon, which donated its staff time and beauty services, opened its doors to girls from the Link Mentoring and Quest youth programs.
According to WYFS Youth Prevention Specialist Leslee Cremer, the event was educational, as well as fun. “The staff taught about cosmetology as a career option. The girls not only sampled services but learned about each one.” The girls met with an esthetician, a massage therapist, a hair stylist and a make-up artist. “I love how they combined pampering with teaching,” says Leslee.
Heidi Fitzgerald, owner of Heidi’s Salon and Warrenville resident, was thrilled to host the girls. “Heidi’s Salon believes it’s very important to give back, especially in our own community,” she says. “It’s always inspiring to work with the youth—they are our tomorrow! We love volunteering with WYFS and look forward to future endeavors.” A highlight of the night for Heidi was seeing the girls’ enthusiasm to listen and learn.
One sixth-grader said, “I liked going there. It made me feel special and good.” Thanks to the salon’s generosity, each girl walked out with a manicure, a pink or purple hair extension and a hair style.
“We feel so blessed by the partnership we hold with Heidi’s Salon,” adds Leslee. “They are so giving of their time and talents.”
