Sue Wilson of JLKD helps a JV resident put together a professional outfit.

Thank you to Junior League of Kane & DuPage Counties (JLKD) for blessing Jubilee Village (JV) with an educational and entertaining program during a recent JV community meal!

According to Michelle Demuir, director of Jubilee Village, a team of women from JLKD presented to JV’s young residents on the importance of being professional when looking for employment. The class covered topics such as how best to market yourself on LinkedIn, the best responses to questions asked during interviews, and the importance of tweaking your resume to fit each interview. The residents especially enjoyed the fashion show included in the event, which showcased appropriate and professional workplace attire with demonstrations on how to put an outfit together.

“Our residents were thrilled that they were given the opportunity to choose, at no cost to them, professional clothes from a beautiful array of donated items provided by JLKD,” says Michelle. Also available to them were purses, jewelry, scarves and shoes. After receiving fashion advice from the women of JLKD, each resident was able to shop and add a plethora of items to her wardrobe.

“Jubilee Village offers support and guidance as our young single mothers work to overcome obstacles related to finances, transportation, mental health, parenting, daycare, and resume-building,” says Michelle. “Junior League of Kane & DuPage Counties has been a consistent and valuable support to Jubilee Village over the past several years, for which we are grateful. And now, they have assisted our young residents in overcoming another obstacle … how to dress for success!”

Jubilee Village serves women between the ages of 18 and 24 and their children. The program is designed to holistically address the myriad needs of its residents, many of whom come with histories of family discord and domestic violence and without financial resources or job skills. Young mothers benefit from wrap-around services, including safe and secure housing, counseling, case management, financial planning, parenting classes, job skills and mentoring from experienced live-in couples on each floor. Jubilee Village is a program of Wheaton Youth Outreach.
