Division: Outreach Community Center in Carol Stream
The Outreach Community Center in Carol Stream is a multi-purpose, neighborhood resource center serving a low-income, ethnically diverse neighborhood. Services include counseling, casework, mentoring, community development and after-school programs for children and youth.
The classroom teacher is responsible for teaching a classroom of up to 10 students, five days per week in the Learn-2-Earn summer program. Duties include classroom instruction, conducting individual academic assessments for students along with goals for academic improvement; working with staff team to supervise students on weekly field trips throughout the summer; maintaining center-wide standard of classroom behavior within the classroom; and communicating behavioral problems to parents.
Bachelor’s degree in Education, English or a related field; previous classroom teaching or group experience with adolescents focused around language arts or literacy; previous experience with curriculum development and lesson planning strongly preferred; a passion for reading and ability to engage and motivate junior high students to read; sensitivity to the needs of students from low-income, high-risk families and culturally diverse backgrounds. Spanish language skills a plus.

Salary for this position falls between $14-$16.50 per hour based on education, skills and experience skills.
