The grant will help underwrite Outreach’s College Opportunity Program, which supports low-income, academically at-risk students in central and western DuPage County. The program includes college prep services for high school students such as afterschool homework sessions, adult academic mentors, ACT prep, weekly leadership and life skill development, college tours, summer youth employment training and work experience. In addition, graduates of the college prep are eligible for college scholarships through the program.
Bonnie Malcolm Chrisman, vice president of resource development at Outreach, speaks of the impact this grant makes on youth in the community. “The WGN Radio Neediest Kids Fund is helping remove the barriers that prevent promising young students who come from challenging family or financial circumstances from seeking higher education,” she says. “We are very grateful to the Neediest Kids Fund for their ongoing support for this vital program.”
