Quest program youth from Warrenville Youth & Family Services are taking the initiative to reach out this winter! According to Alicia Sremaniak, Quest program coordinator, the students planned a service project at the DuPage Convalescent Center because they wanted to provide joy to older adults during the cold winter months.
The students planned a fun activity of bingo and gifts for the residents on Jan. 15. Students were partnered with residents, helped them play bingo and engaged them in conversation. “All of the residents had a great time, and the students walked away with a new appreciation of the older generation,” says Alicia. “After the service project, the students stressed the desire to work with the convalescent center again, and have started brainstorming other projects to do there.”
Quest provides a structured and safe environment for junior high and early senior high youth who are at risk. Meeting after school and during the summer, Quest includes academic coaching, life skills training, recreation and community service projects.
