Day One of spring break saw Outreach staff and OCC-Villagebrook residents come out for a bit of friendly competition to establish who has the best pasta sauce around. Residents, members from the Community Council and Teen Council, Mary Lundeen (lead teacher), and Marissa Sabio (program coordinator) tasted and voted on the five different pasta sauces entered by Villagebrook residents.

The community-wide event counted about 35 adults and youth in attendance, and the warm spring weather meant people could spill outdoors to enjoy the playground while votes were being counted. Over 120 votes were cast; Villagebrook resident Junelle Lewis was the clear winner. Junelle received the honor of taking home the Golden Pasta Fork trophy, and also won an apron, chef’s hat, and Jewel gift card.

Everyone was excited to see if Junelle, who had won the Chili Cookoff in November, would be adding to her trophy collection.  “I would’ve been ok with someone else winning – but I just love this trophy!” Junelle said with a big smile. “I’m going to put it on my mantel next to my other one.” Marissa, in a bid to unseat Junelle, says she and Mary Lundeen are planning Villagebrook Cupcake Wars later in the spring.
