YCRC is a multi-purpose community resource center serving Villa Park residents. Programs include after-school and summer programs for children and youth in 1st – 8th grades, supportive wrap-around services for program families and community organizing.
Elementary Summer Program
The all-day summer program for students in 1st-5th grades offers educational support, social and recreational activities and field trips. During the school year, services are offered each day after school and students are provided homework assistance, social-emotional learning and recreation.
The intern will be supervised by the Elementary Program Coordinator and work with program staff to take daily attendance, implement the summer lunch program, make program purchases, track program expenses, supervise students on field trips and at the pool, and assist with other classroom activities as time allows. The intern will also contribute to the successful creation of differentiated activities and use creative organizational skills to plan and implement weekly themed “Fun Friday” activities that engage a wide age-range of students. The intern will receive exposure to various aspects of summer programming that support the academic and social-emotional learning of Elementary students.
The intern will receive experience in the over-all working of a Christian, community-based social service ministry and will gain knowledge of the assets and challenges of the diverse community served by YCRC. The intern will have the opportunity to utilize Spanish-speaking skills (if desired) in their interactions with bilingual students and will learn the supportive resources available to students and families.
