Students in the Warrenville Youth & Family Services Quest and mentoring programs were given a Christmas to remember this year, thanks to NorthStar Credit Union. On December 23, 2014, a team of NorthStar employees threw a pizza party for the youth, plus their mentors, academic coaches and families. Following the meal, NorthStar distributed 45 individualized gift bags to each of the students.
“The kids were thrilled to receive their gifts, and surprised that their Christmas wishes had come true,” says staff member Leslee Ferguson. “This experience made each student feel known and appreciated—and they now have a great story to share when they go back to school and are asked what they got for Christmas this year. We are so grateful to NorthStar for their generosity to our students and their families.”
In addition to the Christmas gifts, NorthStar surprised the students’ families with all the fixings for a traditional holiday dinner, each of which could feed a family of six. In all, 35 meals were donated.
“NorthStar Credit Union seeks out ways to support our community in Warrenville, and when we learned about WYFS and the students here, we thought this would be the perfect opportunity for us to give back this holiday season,” said Cristen Austgen, one of the event organizers. “We’re already making plans for next year’s Christmas party.”
