Warrenville Youth & Family Services’ partnership with the Warrenville Fire Protection District is going strong!

On January 8, the WYFS Quest “Hot Shots” group met for its monthly visit to the fire station and learned about home safety. The students were broken up into two groups, given a home safety checklist, and instructed to perform an inspection of the fire station, which was loaded with code violations specific to the exercise. Lt. Weber also taught the group the proper way to fold an American flag.

Link Mentoring pairs held the first annual “Feed a Fireman” night on January 11. The group prepared a chili dinner, served the meal and cleaned up. “It was great to see the matches engaging with the firefighters. The kids are in awe of their presence,” says Leslee Cremer, youth prevention specialist. After dinner the matches were given a tour of the fire department.

The matches planned this event as a means of serving the fire department. “Our group wanted to provide the WFPD dinner as a thank you for all the support they have given WYFS youth service programs,” says Leslee.
